Effect of Severe Plastic Deformation on Structure Refinement and Mechanical Properties of the Al-Zn-Mg-Fe-Ni Alloy

This paper identifies the mechanisms of phase and structural transformations during severe plastic deformation by shearing under pressure (high-pressure torsion) an Al-Zn-Mg-Fe-Ni-based aluminum alloy depending on different initial states material (an ingot after homogenizing annealing a rod produced radial-shear rolling). Scanning transmission electron microscopy are used to determine morphological size characteristics constituents high-pressure torsion. It has been found that, irrespective history torsion, fragmentation dynamic recrystallization results in nanostructural with high microhardness 2000 2600 MPa. Combined processing torsion + rolling) is shown yield nanocomposite reinforced dispersed intermetallic phases origins, namely Al9FeNi eutectic aluminides MgZn2, Al2Mg3Zn3, Al3Zr secondary phases. The uniaxial tensile testing demonstrate good mechanical properties composite (ultimate strength 640 MPa, 628 elongation 5%).
